Our crew is going on Trek 18 at the beginning of July and this trek includes a chuck wagon meal. My question is do we need to bring bowls or could we use 1 qt plastic bags. Since we are rehydrating all our meals in either the foil containers or 1 qt plastic bags, we really don't need the bowls unless they are required for the chuck wagon meal.

You could probably use the quart bags. They normally serve beef stew, cornbread, and some sort of cobbler plus water or gatorade. We always use GSI bowls since we use the turkey bags to rehydrate then serve in bowls. They have wash, sanitize, and rinse tanks set-up for you to clean bowls before and after the meal if you decide to go that route. If you could find bags with a flat bottom, you could probably make that work. You proceed through a line of very hunger campers where everything will be placed in the bag. You may get seconds.

Since, we only need this bowls once, I'm going to look at disposable bowls.

Our kids have really enjoyed the no clean-up we have when we use the 1 qt bags/foil bags to rehydrate our food. Basically what we do is rehydrate the main course for two scouts in a 1 qt plastics bag then separate the food into two portions between the plastic bag the original foil bag the main course was packaged in.

To keep the food bags from spilling while rehyrading, we made three foil reflectix bags (cozies) in the shape of a lunch bag to hold the food while rehyrading.

You could get an orikaso folding bowl. Used that during the 2 years I was a ranger. Weighs 33g (maybe a bit to much if going SUL), but always a good option.

We did not bring extra bowls to our Chuckwagon dinner. We used our water bottle as a cup, and our mugs as the bowls. We were able to get all the food.

Bowls useful at chuckwagon meal, and helped eliminate waste in other circumstances. Easy clean-up available at chuckwagon sites.
