On top of that we are offering a 10% off discount that can be used store-wide. At checkout you will need to enter BPLSummer2010 for to receive the discount. (Coupon Code Ends June 15, 2010)

Black Cuben on 05/27/2010 07:25:29 MDT Print View

The black cuben is very "mysterious" looking haha. The color is dark because the material is a heavier version then most people are use to seeing. I built a few dry bags out of the CT1K.08 a while back and they haven't lasted as well as I would of liked. I never realized dry bags and stuff sacks were subjected to so much abrasion and puncture. I didn't want to offer a product that you had to "use at your own risk". So I built something that would be durable and leak free, yet be lighter in weight then Silnylon. These seem to be fit the bill quite nicely.

I saw those, but those are areas (length x width), and don't tell me how much they can fit, unless they're for map storage.

For example, Granite Gear CTF3 drysacks are described as 7 Liter: - 4.5" x 17" x 17".

Volumes on 05/27/2010 09:17:47 MDT Print View

The bags are actually 2" longer then stated to allow for rolling.

4x6 .5 Liter (camera and gps fits perfectly)
5x8 1 Liter
6x9 2 Liter
8x12 4 Liter
9x15 6 Liter

I filled them so you could roll them once with water then measured. I figure you can't more exact then that.

The 4 liter should work for your quilt depending on the internal volume after the rolltop is closed. It will be a little tight, but should work.

The only delay is the my lack of material. I already have more material on the way so once it arrives I will build them and have them ready to ship the following day.

My focus is standard items but I will do custom orders. I recently built Doug Ide a 4 season cuben tarp.

Cuben Fiber Pack Liner on 06/04/2010 20:54:29 MDT Print View

Wanted to give my initial thoughts after receiving the 30L cuben pack liner.

Weight = 2 oz

Black cuben fiber, seemed quite sturdy to me. I don't have any other cuben items to compare it too but it was thicker than I expected.

Seams are taped and the construction looks very solid.

I was not sure if 30L would be large enough as my pack is larger. However, I think the size is just right. I can fit my sleeping bag, all my clothes, my homemade net tent and my ditty bag with all the little miscellaneous items with some room to spare.

I cannot fit my tarp, cooking gear or food bag but I am not really worried about keeping these dry.

I filled the bag with air, closed the top and squeezed, air did leak out very slowly. I think that it would not keep things dry if completely submerged for very long but for rain or an accidental fall into a river I think it will perform well.

My overall impression is positive and I look forward to some good wet weather to try it out.

Air Vs. Water on 06/05/2010 10:22:53 MDT Print View

Hey Adam,

Thanks for your feedback!

I assure that these packliners and dry bags are water-tight. Please fill it with some clothes and submerge it for a while. If your drybag leaks water please return it since these drybags are designed to be 100% water tight.

Dry bags in generally are not designed to be 100% air tight since a water molecule is thousands of times bigger then an air molecule. It's the reason breathable laminates like Gore-Tex and eVent work.

More Left and Zip Code Problem on 06/06/2010 14:54:28 MDT Print View

There is 1 packliner left thats built. I think I have enough material to build another 10 but I need to wait and see. I will add them to my inventory sometime tonight if I have enough material left over.

I have been getting some request for other colors. I will probably start off with the Standard Grey. I will start working on those at the end of the week in hopes to have them ready before the sale ends on June 15th..

I had a report there was a Zip Code problem with placing an order on my site. I was messing with things last night and must of clicked something. Its all fixed now so if you tried to place an order but it wouldn't let you please try again.

I have had some International requests. We ship worldwide for $15.00. The price is good as long as fits in USPS priority mail flat rate envelope.

Thanks,
Lawson

Cuben Fiber Pack Liner as a Bear Bag? on 06/14/2010 19:21:04 MDT Print View

Could I use the pack liner as a gigantic bear bag? For example, could I attach a line to it and expect it to support 20-25 pounds of food hanging overnight?

I currently have an MLD Pro Bear Bag system. It works really well but it was completely stuffed when we put all the food and snacks for four of us in it on our first night out. Something bigger, like your pack liner, would be great.

Lawson... I would also be very interested in a 12x20 sac that could be used as a Bear Bag since that matches the size of the large OP sack. I would not feel comfortable using the pack liner for that..I do not think the clip is designed to be load bearing. I wonder if Cuben Fiber would absorb less food ordors than silnylon??

The 2 smaller bags I ordered first are PERFECT. The 4x6 has become my permanent Iphone bag for all my outdoor activities. The 6x9 is replacing my silnylon ditty bag. My packliner should arrive today

Cuben Fiber Pack Liner, Dry Bags on 06/19/2010 08:13:07 MDT Print View

I received my 8" x 12", 9" x 15", and pack liner last week. I'm very impressed with the quality of workmanship and the weights. Mine actually weighed less on my kitchen scale than Lawson's stated weights. The pack liner came in at 1.6 oz., vs. the stated 2.0 oz. Sweet. By the way, the black isn't all that black--more of a dark silver-gray, depending on how the light strikes it.

For fun, I filled up the 8" x 12" bag with water and hung it up outside. It didn't leak a drop in over an hour. I'm a little nervous about the strength of the small buckle, however, and I like the beefier buckle of the pack liner (which is easier to work with, and with little additional weight).

As to using these bags for food hanging, I don't know. A stronger buckle would allow that I think, but I'd worry about critters breeching the material, strong as it is. I'm thinking that placing the bag inside an Ursack or Outsak would work nicely. A 12" x 20" bag would probably be perfect for this.

My 30 L. bag didn't quite hold all my stuff, and didn't match the interior volume of my Jam 2. I think a 45 L. bag would do the trick. Or you could use several of these bags, of different sizes for different things.

All in all, I think Lawson has come up with a very high quality product here, and it was a great gesture for him to offer the BPLers a nice discount.
