I have tried them, used during long runs. They have a better texture (granular/sugary like a jelly bean) and are a little less likely to stick to your teeth like some of the other chewable energy products (like Clif Bloks, etc).
I don't know if the potassium/sodium/whatever in them are helpful, or if it is just the sugar (much higher than Clif Bloks). Great for a long run, ok if you are bonking on a ride, but probably not that helpful for hiking anything other than a dayhike.
