Alluminium Pot for two plus gripper on 05/11/2010 05:51:41 MDT Print View

I assume this is a simple question, I don't believe there is much choice out there for this kind of pot? Simple and light as possible and reasonbly cheap.

What is the one to go for?

Paul:
Hey! Are you cooking FOOD in the pot or just boiling water to pour over boil-in-the-bag meals? Why Al rather than Titanium? It is NEVER a simple question on these forums!

Cheers, James.

not dehydrated on 05/11/2010 17:00:23 MDT Print View

In this particular set up, as it wont be lightweight, I'd be looking to cook food, rather than dehydrated stuff.

AGG pot is pretty light. Beer cans may be lighter, but their nmarrow bases are very inefficient, and less stable.

MSR pot lifter is the lightest I know of, barring the MYOG bits of wire (which can work quite well, mind you).

Kmart Grease Pot on 05/11/2010 21:08:43 MDT Print View

These little pots work great and cost less than $10. They're made of aluminum and I'd say you could cook for 2 with one. Here's a link from trail designs with a picture and a bit of info. about the grease pot:

If you've got a Kmart around I'd check it out. You can't go wrong for that price. I'd probably just grab a generic gripper from REI or similar to go with it. Hope this helps.

If you're trying to cook in the pot, I would consider the AntiGravity Gear 2 Qt. pot (5.9 oz and $13) and lifter (1.2 oz and $2.50) for something simple, cheap, and reasonably light.

Love it, it's been my main go-to pot for years and going strong. Possibly the most use out of $12 I've gotten from anything in my pack. Made a quiche for 2 from scratch last night in it. In my pack, pot, lifter, cozy, lid, lid cozy, bake kit and windscreen totals 8oz and pack as a unit. then i fill the pot with stove etc for a self contained kitchen unit. I really like the caldera for this pot, but it almost doubles the packed footprint.

My partner has a 3 oz non stick fry pan I'd really like to carry to supplement this pot -- the killer is it uses the GSI/REI style pot gripper, which adds another 3oz!

Anyone know if the MSR litelifter will work on both the AGG pot and the GSI style pots? if I get one lifter, or at least a 1 oz lifter, I think my kitchen is finally complete.

If you need something bigger than all these listed, check the walmart grease pot made by Imusa, its like 1.4L, not at home and don't remember the exact wt, but its like $10 and very lw for the capacity. Have to cut off the handle and take the knob off the top though. I can post a pic later of mine with my sub 1oz lifter

Antigravitygear retails a 3 cup and a 2qt pot. the 2 qt pot works out to ~1.9 Liters.
