I just zoomed by the PCT trail sign a few hours ago. A mile away, there is at least five feet of snow on the ground, but at the sign, the rock was almost bare. New granular snow was coming down.--B.G.--
Yesterday I drove up Hwy 4 from Stockton toward Ebbits Pass. Road closed at Alpine Lake, just pass Bear Valley, way before Ebbits Pass. Still a lot of snow above 5,000 ft.
I think the top of Ebbetts Pass is around 8700 feet.Carson Pass (just one pass north) had about five feet of old snow at 9300 feet, where I camped. The sky was clear enough that I could see Lake Tahoe in the distance.--B.G.--
