I saw this in an ad last night. Off is making a small powered mosquito repellent device that takes replaceable inserts and clips on or can sit next to you. Seems like it would be great for tarp users, hung from the ridge line.

Of course, the weight isn't published and it takes 2 AA batteries, so it's not going to be featherweight. The toxicity needs a good look too. The active ingredient is metofluthrin.

No experience, but in the dead of the night, might the "quiet" fan become annoying??

I saw these last yea but couldn't find much information on their effectiveness.

Seems to work great for some, or not work at all for others.

There is the Thermacell too. Probably heavier but not 'heavy'. It works kind the same way. We sell a ton of them to folks going to AK to hunt, they come in looking for it due to recommendations. Haven't heard any feedback, but people come in year after year so I assume word of mouth can't be too bad.

Less so than being eaten alive. I was thinking that it wouldn't need to run all night in those areas that cool off quickly. It needs a timer.

After some thought, there are other pests like noseeums and black flies that might not be repelled by this gadget, where a bug net takes care of all of them.

More plastic in the landfill, or worse.

It sucks. Doesn't seem to really help at all. I used it in the Wind Rivers last year. The mosquitoes were thick enough to carry you away. Headnet and full coverage were the best options. The 30% Deet wipes that come in wet wipe sorta packages work really well too (on exposed hands or bare feet).
