Taking a group of Scouts to the Smokys last week of June. Looking to do about 40 miles. Thinking Fontana Dam to Newfound Gap. Any other suggestions for the area. Have been working to get my group lightened up.

Another nice trip is going south from Fontana dam to Nantahala on the AT. I believe it is around 35-40 miles if you leave from the dam. It is a difficult hike, but beautiful scenery.

I actually like the other side of the park on the AT better (Newfound Gap to Davenport Gap) than the "south" side. If you are taking scouts, just know that the maximum group size is 8 and you have to stay at, and have reservations for the shelters. They only have space for 12 and they have 4 spots reserved for thru hikers in March, April, and May, but I think they stop by June.

Well time issues and some members of my party concerned of too many miles in 4 days. Have decided to do Snakeden Ridge,Maddron Bald & Gabes Mountain out of Cosby Campground.Ive done this trip before in two days. We are going to take three this time. Should be easy enjoyable trip,would like to make more miles myself. Its tough to find folks that will get into shape & also adopt a lighter weight philosophy.

I'd love to use Meetup or another site like that, but hate to fork over $150 for the use of the site.

I totally understand not wanting to pay for meetup. Seems their prices keep going up and up.

I can read the wall, see the trips listed and see the pictures that are posted but that is about it. I know how to get in touch with you but no way could I keep up with your pace!!
