FYI New Golite Ultralite 204.98 on 04/23/2010 18:09:27 MDT Print View

Just an FYI. While the old Golite Ultra 20 might no longer be available, the new and much improved Golite Ultralite 3 season quilt is now available, so the old Ultra 20 may be a tough sell at $200 when you can get a new version for $204.98 at Prolitegear. Oh, and that's shipped since shipping is free on any purchase over $50. I seem to recall that when the Ultra 20 was discontinued they were blowing them out at 40% off and actually some even better deals. Anyway, this may be why you don't get much interest in this.

on the contrary... on 04/23/2010 18:23:27 MDT Print View

Mike, I don't think the new 3 season quilt is improved or better in anyway. Yes, its recycled, and thats cool, but most people are p*ssed that they bumped up the weight on all their quilts. Comparing the ultra20 to the new 3 season isn't a fair comparison imo. The old ultra 20 weighs 19oz, and in terms of weight is more comparable to the new golite 1 season quilt, which currenly weighs 20oz, and is only rated to 40 degress. I would say the old ultra 20 was rated more around 28-30 degrees, so in that regard, the discontinued ultra 20 is way better in my book

Hate to say it, but discontinued golite items are kinda like classic cars...i saw an ion sell for 75 dollars on ebay, when they were only 50 dollars new. Want a better example? Check this out (be warned, your brain will explode upon seeing the price)

http://cgi.ebay.com/Go-Lite-Ultra-Lite-Weight-Backpack-/300418809162?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45f25b3d4a#ht_500wt_1182

And that pack kind of sucks compared to whats being offered by MLD (burn), ULA (conduit) etc. At least the golite ultra20 still kicks Ass by today's stds

So i say keep the price at 200, someone will want it, maybe not here, but on eBay im sure

@Mike - Au contraire, mon ami au courant.

I don't think that the 2010 version has made significant improvements at all. It has gained weight, of which 2 oz. is down, so it should perhaps be a bit warmer, but I don't think the down quality is quite as good as the previous version because of the limitations of suppliers for sustainably produced down. Secondly the fabric appears to be a fair bit heavier. They seem to be trying to go light on the environment (props), but heavier on gear and heavier on your pocket book. The Ultra 20 was (and if you can find one is still) a great value, even though it is probably closer to a 25-30 degree quilt. It has the same weight as a WM Summerlite and a half ounce more down, if I recall correctly.

For the weight of the new quilts, I would just go with a bag, personally. The Ultra 20 is likely a preferable product to the current version for most people here.

He just posted this and it probably won't go as quickly as a regular would, but there should be plenty of people out there who would benefit from a quilt of these specs for the price. Try to find another sub-$200 sub 19 oz. 800+ fill quilt w/ WPB panels @ feet and top.

Edit: +1 on Konrad (looks like we were writing at the same time)

Gentlemen,

Thanks for your input on the previous opinions stated, but I have already sent a PM to the poster about publically stating opinion & interfering with other's posting. The PM system is a more appropriate medium for things of this nature.
I am sure that someone will appreciate this item for what it truly is. Please don't let this turn into a flame war, I am just trying to sell this quilt to someone who needs a great quilt at a fair price, I paid much more for it.
Regards,
John

Last bump before e-bay. How about $180.00 shipped? I am leaving next week, so the first real buyer will be notified after I return. I do not use paypal, so a USPS money order will get the quilt sent right out. A check of any other nature will have to clear my bank prior to shipping.

John
