Hey guys, so I was going to upgrade the basic caps on my platy bottles to the push/pull ones they have for their sports bottle. However, i saw that they were 3 bucks each before shipping, so I went out to scout for an alternative, and found one

Got these at my local supermarket. It's a brand called owater, that markets their water with electrolytes yada yada yada fruit flavors etc. Well anywas, the bottle itself is tough (similar to the plastic found on liter soda bottles) but most importantly, the it came with a push/pull cap that was compatible with my platys. The price per bottle? 88 cents! Not bad for a complete water bottle that you can use on the trail, or a substitute cap for your platy, or if you just want to drink water that will make you run faster and be more attractive :D

Company's based outta MA, so not sure of its availability nation wide. But I'm sure where ever you are, theres a water bottle on the shelves that will work as well.

Nice find! I wonder if they fit on the Evernew bladders?!

I think they do fit the evernew bottles... I went the other way and fitted the orange evernew caps (with the little plastic lid saver tabs) on to two of those bottles (a 1L and a 0.6L, so they fit nicely in the side pocket of my golite jam). This allows me to use the evernew hydration tube on either bottle without losing the caps. One tube, two bottles with caps & cap-savers!

Oh, yeah, the labels peel of OK, but you need to use something like "goo gone" to get rid of the sticky goo left behind by the label, or, just leave the label on!

nice! Never thought about running a hydration tube to a commercial bottle. I can think of some applications where that would be useful. Haha and yes, i just found out myself that the labels really suck when it comes to peeling them off. An alternative to goo gone is to use packaging tape, and reapply it to the residue, and then peeling it off in a fast motion. Anyone remember that steve carell scene in the '40 year old virgin.' Yeah just like that

Don't know about that particular one, but remove that sticky stuff by soaking the bottle in my dish washing water (warm to hoot) for a few minutes.
That is in my sink...

For the Aussies, I found the "pump" water bottle tops fit on the platypus too.

The generic water bottles my gym sells with a push/pull cap also fit the platy blatters. To bad i didn't find this out until I payed $2 for a platy cap.

Last year picked up a Platypus with the push pull. Maybe it's just the one I have. The beast is tough to pull open. If I don't firmly close it down the beast leaks. Thought it would easily open and close like a normal water bottle. Makes the "cheap" recycled closures more of a bargain.

yeah man! The stock platy push/pull is tough to open. Your post reminded me of all the times I hated it on the trail. This is def a better alternative.
