He lays a limb to prop his knife blade over the tinder, steps on the knife, and draws the fero rod against it. This seems to eliminate the argument for the sparkie, blastmatch, or spark lite.

Well yeah,but he is using his foot too. Let see that with a Wenger esquire or other small blade. Still the firesteel is the way to go.

This guy leaves the blade extruding past his shoe also, but you can use the sole of your shoe to reinforce the blade if showing off on youtube isn't a priority. Works for smaller knives, and helps with folders like the wenger.

I have been practicing lighting my Mini Bic with one hand (just in case) for years.

If you have seen his other videos you will know that his skills are far beyond anything we can hope to achieve. Raised in the rural lands of Sweden he was as much raised by wolves as he was his parents ;)
