Golite Ion on 03/14/2010 18:33:12 MDT Print View

I will be going on a trip oversees for a few weeks and will just take my Gregory G pack as my luggage. This time, I will need another smaller day pack that I can stuff in it until I reach my destination and then use this day pack during the day for hikes and exploring while my G pack is in the hotel or hostel. I thought the Ion would work but does it have a stiff back to it like the rest of the Jams?

What would be a good travel day pack if this isn't a good idea? I will need to carry some food, rain gear, jacket, water. Maybe go kayaking, biking...

No stiff back, it's just a sack. But good luck finding one now that they are discontinued. Wish I bought a second one.

Some options are REI Flash 18, L.L. Bean Stowaway, ZPacks, and Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Packable Daypack,

I love my REI ZIP Travel pack.

and the Osprey Daylite looks good too.

I feel that it fits better than that LL Bean Stowaway pack.

Good to know about the Zip. I wondered how well it held up with some weight added to it. Also the REI Flash. But if folks use these bags for summit climbs, these things would work fine for day hiking and other sports.

I need it to pack up small, so I don't know if the Osprey would do that.

Thanks for the link. I somehow missed that one. The MYOG looks interesting, but I don't have time for that at the moment. But....down the road. I do like the one that looks like a yoga mat carrier.

Ken-
I found one. Last one at Fingerlakes Running Company. Thanks for your well-wishes. It seemed to work!
