Can you use the tape for cuben and tyvek for other fabrics at all?

For example, going from cuben to nylon, do you just stitch it, or would stitching it then putting tape over it help the cuben from tearing? Or do you even need to stitch it at all?

I suck with a sewing machine, so this tape for cuben seems like cheating to me, in the best possible way. Sweet homebrew stuff, and no curses hurled at a Singer. There has to be a catch beyond the eye-popping price, right?
