Where to buy silnylon? on 03/04/2010 08:13:10 MST Print View

Where's a good place to buy a small amount of silnylon for patching?

I've got some pieces of several other colors (tan, navy, purple, jade, etc) - just tell us what color and size and some one will be able to help you out.

What kindness! on 03/04/2010 13:09:29 MST Print View

Tim, Ben and Marc - Thanks for your kind offer of scraps! Seriously!

I have about six 2 1/2 inch cuts in a Golite green poncho I need to patch.

It's my own fault - I bought the poncho used here, but had forgotten about it when I got this odd squishy package. I slit the package open, and discovered that I had just sliced through a half dozen layers of my new poncho!

Any colors would be fine - in fact, a multi-colored set of patches would have a certain panache, eh?!

PMs will be sent!

Thanks also for the on-line stores - I will bookmark them for future stupidities!

i recommend the method of laminating sil that was recently and article on BPL by Jim C. I did that on his suggestion for mid panel tie-outs a few years back and it worked great. It would be a great way to patch the poncho without sewing. You could glue the patches on from the inside so on the outside it was less noticeable.

Exactly what I was planning!

In fact, it was the laminating article that got me thinking of this.

Thanks!

Thanks, thanks and thanks! on 03/12/2010 15:09:51 MST Print View

Marc and Tim, thanks for the silnylon - between the two of you, I'm sure I have enough for the job!

Tim, you are a hoot! As soon as I saw the box, I started laughing! "NO KNIVES!!!" LOL!!! With all you sent me, I'm sure I have enough patch material for the next 20 years! Thanks, buddy!

Once I get the patching done - which may not be for a month - my weekends are all taken - I'll post a photo of my poncho of many colors!

Thanks again, guys!
