Not sure where to put this one, so here it is in Chaff:

I'll be spending a week on the AT starting March 6. I'll be starting at the PA/MD border and working my way south to (I hope) Ashby Gap in Virginia.

If anybody on this forum lives nearby or has hiked this section lately, I'd appreciated greatly a bit of info.

I know the east coast has had a bit of snow lately. ;-) Still, the next week looks to be above freezing during the daytime, so some melting should occur. What are the current snow levels in MD, and what do you expect to happen with temps rising into the 50's over the next few days?

Do I need to overnight some snowshoes, or will my thigh-high waterproof overshoes be enough?

Should I just bail on the project? I had originally planned to hike in Shenandoah, but they are reporting 5 - 8 feet snow drifts (at significantly higher elevations than the AT in Maryland).

Many thanks,

Stargazer
