List of discount and closeout stores on 04/25/2006 20:28:50 MDT Print View

I'm wondering if there is a list anywhere of outdoor discount, outlet and closeout stores, preferably with an online catalogue so that anyone here can access them.

The reason I ask is that I already know about Sierra Trading Post, REI outlet and Backcountry outlet, and check their sites fairly frequently. But I'm sure that there must be others that I've never heard of, that some of you are thinking "Everyone knows xyz, I won't bother posting THEM".

Drop your favourites in this list, with a website if you can. If they specialise in a specific type of gear UL, climbing, AR etc, tell us that too.

Regards, Rod

Okay guys, I'm a bit of a gumba, but I think I have it sussed. I'll update this as I get a chance.

Mountain Gear has a great selection <>, and although they're not really a discount shop, they have randomly discounted pieces as well as massive blowout sales. Helps to check that one frequently, and also get on their mailing list. I just got an OR Neoplume and a Mithril for less than $200 combined.

Outdoor Gear Exchange <> is a 2nds, closeout, overstock resale shop like Sierra; great deals, not as good selection as Sierra.

Geartrade <> has a crappy interface and also frequent poor-quality posts, but given that it's basically a permanent online garage sale for gear, you can find some great deals here.

Those are the ones that pop into my head immediately, I may add more when I get back to the forum later in the week. With any luck, this will get other people to list their favorite places too . . . .

All the following have some sort of closeout or outlet section: (web deals and hot deals) (outpost tab) is good if there is a local hub-- buy from your neighbors. Sell too.

Also, Campmor and Backcountry Gear. They're not discounters, but they run an ongoing "clearance" section and frequent good sales.

kinky discount outdoor gear? on 04/26/2006 18:07:53 MDT Print View

You can tell a lot about a person by what they see in a string of letters.:-)>

That is Wilderness Exchange, of course, but perhaps they wanted to capture the Googlers of transexual paraphenalia.

Clickable links on 04/26/2006 21:14:54 MDT Print View

Thanks, guys, we're looking good here. Now, can anyone tell me how I create a clickable link for these?

I'll edit it into my first post as a list.

Clickable links on 04/26/2006 21:50:29 MDT Print View

Hi Rod, This is very easy but not that easy to type as the link keeps wanting to work as I type it.

Think of the link as 4 parts.
1. type the following in front of the url such as this one:

Type one of these: <
Then type :br
Then one of these: >
Then :<
Theb: a
Then: href="

2. then type the url with no space.
3.Close the url with thisone of these: "
4. Then: >
4. adding no space type the link name.
5. close this with the following:

when you do it correct it will look like this the active link will be highlighted like this: link

Let me warn you to first check the web site before you post it. We have a few jokers here that may think it is funny to add a web site that is not really appropriate.

OK the other person types faster.
