DriDucks vs Frogg Toggs - Bulk/Volume on 02/17/2010 22:00:42 MST Print View

Anybody have any experience with both DriDucks and Frogg Toggs jackets? I have a Frogg Toggs Pro Action jacket and I find that it takes up a lot of pack space compared to some other w/p breathable jackets that I have tried. Are the DriDucks equally bulky?

I have the cheapest DriDucks, and don't consider the jacket to be particularly bulky...

Frogg Toggs are more bulky that Dri Ducks, Dri Ducks are more bulky that minimalist ultralight nylon rain jackets. I would say Dri Ducks are closer to the nylon than to the Frogg Toggs in bulk.

Thanks - Hood? on 02/17/2010 22:50:52 MST Print View

Thanks for the quick response. How about a comparison of the hoods. I found the Frogg Togg jacket to have a hood that did not provide much coverage for my face/forehead. Any thoughts on whether the DriDuck hood is any better? Maybe I just have a fat head? :)

The Driducks hood provides full coverage for my head -- but lacks any kind of a brim.

I use the Rainshield version of this jacket. It costs a little more than Driducks and Frogg Toggs but it is also slightly higher quality. Mine packs down pretty small and the hood does keep my head dry.

Sid - Thanks for bringing my attention to the Rainshield jacket. I checked the reviews and it seems like it would be the better alternative.

+1. That's why I like them!

If you go with the Rainshield, it's worth while sealing the seams. They will let in a fair amount of water otherwise.

Am I to understand that they are not sealed? Or just poorly sealed. This is making me think twice about the Rainshield.

"Am I to understand that they are not sealed? Or just poorly sealed"

Not sealed. It's too cheap a jacket for them to seal the seams and still make an outrageous profit. But it's a piece of cake to seal the seams. It'll take you maybe 15 minutes, max.

I've gone through a few pair of Propore jackets so I may have my facts wrong, but I think O2 is not as bulky as DriDucks. Although extra bulk is almost always a negative, I've taken advantage of it by using my DriDucks jacket and pants (stuffed inside a stuff sack) as a pillow. This was one of best pillows I've had in years.
