Steamed trout with the bushbuddy on 01/27/2010 14:46:08 MST Print View

Well I just picked up a Bushbuddy Ultra and pot combo and have ordered a Hane. I was in the grocery store today and saw some rainbow trout. I thought to myself heck I'm gonna try this out.

So this is what I came up with to cook trout in the backcountry.

I bought some metal screen from some splatter strainer from the grocery store and torn the screen out. I then used tin foil with a couple of small wholes to hold in the moisture. I had just dug around in the kitchen and poured some olive oil and lemon pepper seasoning on it.

Very simple and easy clean up. I can boil my water and cook fish at the same time.

Just thought I would share.

I need to get a pot that has a flying pan lid so then I don't need the tin foil.

Anyone know what one of those evenrew pots can fit a bushbuddy?

Andy,
Which pot are you using in the picture, just curious as to what the diameter is?

Great idea, you can steam veggies too. I will be great to add them in the summer when wild greens are growing.

According the the BushBuddy Website: "For compact storage, this stove is designed to nest inside the Snow Peak Trek 900 (.9L)"

The Snow Peak Trek 900 comes with a fry pan lid. Heres a link:

Whats funny is how much cheaper the Bushbuddy is on their website rather than here on BPL. When i get the funds to buy one I will probably go for the regular bushbuddy that is sturdier for only 1.5oz more and costs $95.

Great idea. Does the water ever taste fishy though if some oil drips down into it?
