Since the MLD mids have been brought up I will throw in another recommendation for them. I am personally sectioning the AT, and I recently bought a DuoMid and a Soul side zip bivy for use on the AT. It's a great system in that you can use the DuoMid to "tent", and the bivy in the shelters (I use the bivy under the DuoMid too). Most don't bivy in the shelters per se, but I hate mice and the bivy keeps them off of me. Also, using the bivy under the DuoMid offers extra rain protection and keeps the critters off. Then of course if there is a nice (read dry) evening one can just throw down the bivy, and forgo the DuoMid all together. It's a quite flexible system.

I don't have either of these, but the Moment would be a clear choice for me. I'm fairly certain that the pole is aluminum rather than carbon.
