i'm with charles on this. there are lots of types of people here. myog folks, off the grid folks, gear wonks and gram weenies, minimalist survival folks, old skool backpackers, and lots more.
lots of us just want relatively light, fairly durable, simple gear to go BACKPACKING with. we don't care much about endless tinkering with innovative 2L bottle shower nozzles. why? because we already have a (previously-invented) bandana and a (naturally-occurring) stream to wash with. really, we actually just want to go hiking and see cool stuff. as was stated, gear is not an end in itself, but merely a means to an end (heresy i know!).
and, yes, UL backpacking is at a refinement stage. you might not like that, but it is. we are at the intersection of materials, weight, durability, and "i don't really care because it's already crazy light!" if you are late on the scene, i'm sorry. you can tell me we aren't, but the 5-8 lb. baseweights everywhere might argue otherwise.
and you got lots of response to your thread, not because you "got your message across", but because you came into a nice little friendly enclave on the internet where people are generally nice and helpful, and starting telling people (brusquely) that people "don't think for themselves", they "weakly run for help", that better stuff won't be made "by you", that tim is wallowing in a "negativity mire", etc.
even though there is a message in all this that lots of us would agree with, i "beseech" you to work on your delivery. (although perhaps, sitting in your basement with your little bits of wire and circuit boards and empty 2L bottles and maps of hikes you haven't done, you don't get much people time in?)
ttfn.
p.s. moderator, please move this to CHAFF.
