2010 NEmo Catalog New Tents!!! on 01/11/2010 20:19:51 MST Print View

I noticed REI was having a tent sale on the Nemo Nano and Morpho. I was about to buy the Morpho on sale for a motorcycle camping tent when I noticed they ran out. So obviously it made me wonder why the REI inventory ran out. I checked online and found new Nemo products hidden away in a PDF file.

Personally, I'm still waiting for the "Airbeams" for the Nano in fact their Blog states any tent ending is "O" will be an air inflated tent I just emailed them asking what's going on with the Nano.

While browsing the Catalog I noticed they renamed the Namo to "Andi" and went away from internal velcro poles to "dead end pole sleeves". Sounds like I may be SOL.

Perhaps I'll make a return to REI and see what the Andi is all about.

The Meta 2P looks interesting as does the Espri 2P

Honestly if it wasn't for the weight of the Morpho AR I'd be all over it. For a motorycle / backpacking tent.

Sorry For My Delay on 02/01/2010 16:28:55 MST Print View

This is what they sent:

-----------------------------------------------------------

Hello Alex,

The new IRR AirBeams will be lighter, this part of our quest!

The Andi came about due to customer feedback, they wanted a longer Nano. The length is usually more important than the height. Some other changes will include: lighter mesh, grey floor fabric, pole sleeves instead of internal poles,#5 zipper on vestibule, increased tub height under front door, changed vestibule material to OSMO fabric for better condensation control.

The pole sleeves came about, also due to customer feedback!

The development of IRR AirBeams is of top priority, believe me there is no one that wants to finish that project more than our engineers!

They will fit the Nano, not the Andi.

2011 will bring about a whole new tent design using the new AirBeams~ there is always something, huh?

Changes to Nano / Andi on 02/01/2010 21:42:03 MST Print View

Sounds like every one of those changes they've made have been the issues I've had with my Nano.

Broke the vestibule zipper and had to have it compeletely replaced, NOT under warranty even though the tent was only 6 months old, just because the zipper was too lightweight for the amount of tension that it's under when staked out. $120 repair. At least they put a heavier zipper in to replace it, though they botched the seam sealing job.

My poles have a permanent bend in them, too - not from anything unusual happening to them, just from being pitched for about 30 days. They're always under a great deal of stress from the very tight pitch of the tent.

OSMO has been pretty good but still usually gets a light amount of condensation with two people. The vestibule gets tons. Nice to see OSMO there.

Pole setup has always been a little lame. Always very hard to get the pole ends exactly into the buttons. Looking forward to the airbeams. Sleeves would be better for poles.

A few small flecks of the OSMO coating are starting to peel off after about one year. I've sealed the areas, but wonder if it's worth it to spend more money on this tent. I don't think I'll buy another Nemo. Got my girlfriend and I through a lot on our Europe bike trip last summer though.

REI on 02/03/2010 00:17:12 MST Print View

I bought ours from REI. My issue was the tight pitch and the bend that works its way in to the poles. I've actually kinked one really bad and they sent me a replacement pole within a few days. They did tell me that a slight prebend is normal and they did account for that.

After a few more trips we decided to return the Nano and give the Morpho a try on our return home we noticed that REI was sold out of Morphos so we ended up re-buying a Nano which was now about 100 dollars off. So I have a brand new Nano but I think I'll wait for the Andi to be released and use that tent and return my Nano.

I don't love the way it goes up but I can deal with it. My GF hates the set up as she's used to the Hubba Hubba. which took 30 seconds vs 10 minutes for her and the Nano.

I would like to have a Morpho for stuff like my motorcycle trips and a Nano with airbeams for backpacking. But I don't know when their airbeams are coming and I don't think I really need two tents so I think I'll just end up going for an Andi.
