ANTI- FLOATIES: Filter before Aquamira on 11/06/2009 20:23:16 MST Print View

011

I have been using Aquamira for a few years now and its such a easy system to use (No Brainer) plus you can get the weight down to a oz or less if need be. I used the Brass Strainer Screen with the Aquamira this past season..The filter weighs 0.5 oz and really keeps the floaties out of your Platypus..I a not sure if this has been posted before so oh well..

0.5oz
So easy a caveman could use it.

You know, a Platypus-specific, threaded funnel wouldn't be a half bad offering. That way you could also dip the bottle into streams or skim it through the cow tanks and come up clear, skipping the intermediate step of filling a "dirty water" container.

For silt-laden water and very fine particles, I'd still go with the technique of pouring through a bandana wrapped around a cookpot, then pouring the filtered water into bottles and treating with Aqua Mira.

Another technique that works with rigid bottles is to dip them into the water source with your hand covering the bottle's (preferably small) mouth, then leave just a little space between your fingers for the water to flow in and air to bleed out. This works well at keeping most of the itty bitty critters at bay.

Neat tip....looks like a good idea that could also lead to a neat little product. A tiny nickle sized filter that fits into the mouth of a platybottle would be great and probably only 0.25oz.

The funnel should retain a brim, though, so poured water can settle slowly through the strainer.

Alot of great suggestions guys---I wonder why Platypus does not make a pre-H2O filter for the opening? It seems like a easy and lightweight endeavor to produce.
