Howdy all,
I have an external backpack frame (bag fell apart) that I'm looking to modify for lighter weight/higher comfort as a project this winter. The original shoddy attachments have all fallen apart after a few hikes, and I have an REI UL45 now, but would like to make this useable again since I can't afford a LuxuryLite pack. This won't be wildly lightweight when I'm done (first time with sewing machine so cheap packcloth, etc), but if I like it, I'll make markII with better materials.
My question:
I have looked at the hipbelt attachments from many packs, and I thought I had figured out what I might use. Then, yesterday I came across this on a Jansport pack:

This is certainly very simple, and I'm wondering if it would hold the belt to the frame in a sufficient manner with the addition of a couple lateral pieces to keep the bag from moving side to side overly much.
Concerns? (No, I won't be able to make hip-wings on mk1)
