Ken Thompson has picked an excellent spot to go visit him in his neck of the woods----Way Up North on Oct. 9, 10, 11... I am heading out very EARLY Friday morning..
This is about a 10 mile hike from Canyon Creek TH. A long drive but well worth effort. Hope the weather holds...All welcome

505 North
5 North
Left on HWY 299W at Redding
299 turns into HWY 3
Turn North on Canyon Creek Rd(CR401)at
Junction City about 13 miles to TH

This could be the last Alpine hike of the season!!! Get er Done!!!!

Hey Ken, I guess it depends on what time we manage to get there..I would like to stretch my legs a bit if time permits(get a head start)and if there is a campsite--- but I am always up for a little debauchery... I guess play it by ear. Sounds like fun no matter what!

Looking for feedback on this partial gear list. This will be my first cold trip and I want to be as warm as possible at night. Expected weather is clear and temps in the hi 20's - lo 30's at night.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Dave do not forget: beanie, gloves or a baklava...A baklava is good to keep the cold air off your face if you are not used to sleeping in cold air. A Baklava can really help..Try Sunrise Mountain Sport for a lightweight one..Every thing else looks good. Don't forget some car camping clothes and change of clothes for the drive back.

That's twice you've had to remind me about gloves!

I have 3.5 oz worth of beanie and neck warmer, too.

David, I also have Prolite 4 sleeping pad for you to use(much warmer then the 3/4) Bring the 3/4 for a sit pad and underneath pad for the inflatable sleep pad..The 3/4 pad is good for insulation...

I'll have cold beer and a warm campfire going when you all get there. Permit in hand, come on Friday!

Backpack to L Lake on Saturday morning.
Come out Sunday morning.
Look for nearest In & Out Burger on Sunday afternoon.
Catch up on football scores Sunday night then pass out.
Monday go to Yoga then post trip report and PICTURES!!
