I am looking for a pattern to make rain suits. I haven't found what I am really wanting, full zipper w/hood jacket, velcro closure sleeves. Pants to match.

Anyone make their own rain suit?

And if you did, what material did you use?

Some of the patterns you might want to simplify for UL.
Also, http://therainshed.com/ carries many green pepper patterns plus some others. The rainshed is also a decent place for buying fabric.

Green pepper is an good idea.

I've used this one for a MYOG rainsuit.

Is 1.3 oz silnylon any good for a rain suit? Does it soak through in a rain suit? Since it doesn't breath, does making the suit loose for ventilation work?

What are the options for UL water proof breathable fabric for MYOG these days?

Walter great questions.....

I too wonder what would be the "best choice" material to make the rain suit.

I just started a 9 week sewing class, so I can learn the procedures of using a sewing machine and I want to make rains suits for the family.

So, any and all assistance here would be well appreciated.

Tom, if you're going to be making rain suits for the whole family, separate patterns for each person gets expensive. Some patterns are printed with all sizes on one paper pattern. Buy these, cut out the biggest pattern and transfer to cheap cloth or paper, then cut out next smallest, etc.

Another source is clothing that you have that's worn out; disassemble it and use as a pattern.

Great Ideas,

I haven't ordered the pattern yet, but will soon. One of my sons is same size as I am, so that helps. It is the younger boy that will be tough, since he will out grow the suit in short order.

For my wife and I, I thought I would make individual patterens to keep, and re-use if the suits wear out or need alterations.
