I know that there's been chatter on this topic.. I'm hoping that I can generate some conversation with the three jackets that seem to be on the table , for my needs . Accordingly, any input would be greatly appreciated on :

Western Mountaineering Flight

Montbell Alpline Light

Nunatak Skaha

Thanks !

I've only used the WM Flight, so take this with a grain of salt.

Montbell's is cheapest, but has the least amount of down and the greatest overall weight.

Nunatak's anorak design might make it harder to use as part of a sleep system? I say this as I commonly use the Flight backwards when sleeping to keep that down on top.

I really like the Flight, but wish I had a down jacket with a hood as I sleep with a quilt.

I have a Nunatak Skaha and it is the one piece that always goes in my pack. I have three seasons of climbing, scrambling, and backcountry biking with it.
I like the simple pullover style having cut my teeth on pullover anaroks in Europe. The pull of the other two would be the full zipper.
Nunatak makes gorgeous equipment.

I have two Mont-Bell Down Jackets (UL Inner and Alpine) that I am happy with, but there is no doubt that the other jackets you mentioned are better but more pricy. It is hard to beat Mont-Bell for the money. If money wasn't an issue though, I would love to have a Skaha Plus Pocket Version.

I have seen someone post before that Nunatak will add a full zip to the Skaha, so if that is what you want, email and ask.

As a general rule, when you compare down jackets, you're looking at a few factors:

1. shell/liner material
2. down fill and quality)
3. cut
4. features
5. cost

For a recent discussion on this, check out Will's recent review of the WM Flight. In it, he compares it with MB Inner down and Skaha Plus jackets. Also take note that MB just improved the Inner down by bosting it to 2.5 oz of down, as compared to WM's 3 and Nunatak's 5.0. I'm not sure how the Alpine Light compares with previous models.
