GG Lighttrek poles on 06/11/2009 10:45:46 MDT Print View

I am looking for a new pair of trekking poles to replace my heavy 12 oz Lekis.

I heard the Lighttreks are the bomb. However, they are out of stock on their website. Do these ever come up for sale used?

Any other recommendations? I want something adjustable.

I just noticed that too. At $150 + tax + shipping, they aren't cheap. Do they ever come up used? How about older models?

Ti-Goats on 06/11/2009 12:23:47 MDT Print View

I have products (tho not poles)from both companies, and am happy with the quality each provides.

Here is a recent debate, and the Ti-Goats are $30 cheaper, and since they're not based in TX, you wouldn't pay tax

return policy? on 06/11/2009 12:33:56 MDT Print View

If I try the GG Lighttreks and don't like, will they take 'em back?

I think if you took them on a hike (used them outside), they're yours. The smaller guys would be out of business if they had a return policy like REI/MEC...but if you are happy with poles in general, then you'd probably be happy with them - they're just lighter!

Gear Swap is your return policy on 06/11/2009 12:56:39 MDT Print View

You'd probably have to eat the shipping and your tax costs, but you'd be paying return shipping anyways. There'd probably be somebody - eventually - that would take them for their retail cost (or a bit below) if you threw in shipping.

edit spelling

Light Trek Poles on 06/11/2009 14:45:47 MDT Print View

I bought the Light trek 4's about a month and a half ago and they are far and away the best poles I have ever used.

I have or have had Komperdel C3's, Black Diamond CF poles, Excel carbon and Life Links.

The GG are so light is amazing. The grips are fantastic and the twist locks have functioned perfectly.

In case you didn't notice, I really like them!

I own both the Ti-goats and the GG Light Trek 4 Poles.
The Light Trek are better in several ways:
Locking mech works better, holds better, and is quicker to lock. It has NEVER slipped.

Shafts are bigger, seem to dampen the vibration better and are more robust.

Tip section on the Light Trek has a carbon wrapped spiral protecting the tip section where more strength and durability is needed. Cork handel fits my hands better.

If you didn't like them you could easily re sell them here but I'm guessing that won't happen. I would sell you my Ti-goats but I haven't used them for a while and now can't seem to find them? Not sure if I loaned them to someone and never got them back ??

LT3's. on 06/11/2009 15:43:24 MDT Print View

I've got LT3's and as others have mentioned, these are clearly the best poles I've had ever. Grips are super comfy and sized right. Poles are amazing stiff for their weight.

LT3's are fixed length so you need to know what your doing when you order them but simply can't be beat for performance at any price....

I have a pair and love them. Trust me - you won't worry about the return policy after you've used them for a few miles.

And if you don't like them, they should be pretty easy to sell on Gear Swap.

I have the LT3s and absolutely love them. When fellow hikers ask what poles I have I hand them a pole and every one says the same thing..."Whoa, it's light as a feather!"

re: GG poles on 06/15/2009 19:02:10 MDT Print View

I see on the website they state, "NEW NORDIC STRAP VERSION COMING SOON". Anyone have any additional info?

I know GG says otherwise, but I really can't imagine actually holding onto my poles 12 - 16 hours/day. But if they're gonna manufacture some with some "real" straps, I'm inclined to finally try them out.

Nordic straps on 06/15/2009 20:20:41 MDT Print View

I just talked to GG today. They said the Nordic strap version would be due sometime next week or so, and that the straps would be removeable. These will be a little more expensive. Even more cool...get this--they are adding a camera mount attachment so you can turn your pole into a monopod!

Now all you lighttrek 4 owners out there are going to have to trade in your poles for the new ones...you can just give me (or sell me) your old ones!

LightTrek 4 with Straps on 06/19/2009 14:06:59 MDT Print View

Just got an email from Grant this morning telling me that the LightTrek 4 with straps are now available for ordering. He confirmed that the straps are removable.

I ordered a pair and will post pics when I get them.
