What is the best map for the region of the PCT in California from Echo Lake (Highway 50) to Donner Summit (Highway 80)? It is about a 64 mile section and I am planning on picking up USGS topos but was wondering if there was a particularly good map or guidebook that anyone knew of.

Not sure if your area is covered but Tom Harrison's maps are very good: http://www.tomharrisonmaps.com/locationmap.html

maybe just get someone to xerox the few relevant pages out of their PCT guidebook for the area.

i'd just carry the least amount of map you need, since (unless there is snow) it's a pretty hard trail to lose and it's not a very long bit. 2-3 days of summer time walking.
