I'm looking for .8 oz DWR nylon for the top panel of a bivy. Neither thru-hiker or OWF seems to carry it currently. Is anyone aware of other sources?

"I've mentioned several times over the last year and a half that the 0.8 was no longer being manufactured, and the last of it was just sold.
There is a new sub 1 oz downproof, the first of which just shipped to fill backorders. Expect an announcement on the homepage soon concerning it and other new gearmaking supplies.

This premium cloth is a 20d x 20d symmetrical single-calendared downproof taffeta. It represents a substantial improvement on the previous sub 1 oz, especially in the areas of breathability and appearance.

RE color: as Henry Ford said, "You can have any color, as long as it's black".

David, it's great that you are doing this. Please keep us informed on the design and progress. I know that I'm VERY interested in making a silnylon/DWR bivy this winter.
