tell your friend his bookers are doing a terrible job, I've gone twice now and have had terrible, incoherent lineups at the uptown. In the future I'll buy tix in advance and miss the first bands.

no other surf band though there's a bunch of surf bands out there that would have loved to play on his bill. Same for high on fire, no metal bands in the bill, just some really bad bands that really have nothing to do with the type of music the headliner plays.
I thought it was a fluke with di ck dale, but when I saw the same thing with high on fire, I realized their booker just isn't any good, it's like he/she goes, oh, ok, let's see, old rock, ok, I'll have bands that play old styles, and with high on fire, no idea what the booker was thinking for the opening bands, maybe loud rock? hard to say. Painful in the way sitting through bands that have nothing to do with the headliner always is, with rare exceptions. New Parish is doing a much better job, if you see a metal band headliner, it's going to be a metal show. Not a difficult concept to me.
Don't forget the deaf club, one of the more surreal venues, and a variety of east bay venues I can't remember the names of, ruthy's inn, some others. But fun times. Plus innumerable warehouse and loft parties which were probably the best of all, if only we could remember them... and of course, the temple beautiful, what could be more punk than using jim jones' old hall? Great space too. First show I remember seeing in SF was the ramones in winterland, with svt, jack cassidy's brief fling with punk type rock. I think it was them anyway. So I got to see winterland too.
