WTB: GoLite Shangri-La 3 on 04/06/2009 21:55:24 MDT Print View

Hi, I'm looking for a lightly used GoLite Shangri-La 3, or if I have to, a GoLite Hex 3. The inner nest and floor are not necessary, but I'm also hoping to find a floor for it eventually. Hopefully someone here can help me out. Thanks.

Yes, they are on sale there for $170. And I could pick one up at campsaver.com with a 20% off and get it for $175 and free shipping. But I'd like to find one for a tad under that price. Thanks for the info, though.

You might keep an eye on Altrec. I bought my Shangila-La 3 there not too long ago for $125.

Sorry, I don't have one for sale, but just got one and highly recommend it. I got mine from CampSaver earlier this week and set it up in the back yard during a storm. Even in stock setup with six stakes, it did well in moderate wind, and it is truly enormous! Other than dropping the stock pole for lashed trekking poles, I'm also going to sew in some roll-away netting around the perimeter and maybe even on the door. WIth that addition, it makes a complete 3-season shelter as well, and I really don't know why they don't just do that instead of offering that ghastly "nest." Or maybe I do - so they can sell more gear.

My input - even at $180, well worth it.

Devin, I bought the "ghastly" nest ($69) but I mainly bought it to use on its own for those pleasant, but buggy, nights.

Jeff, email sent.

P. P., I will keep an eye out at Altrec if Jeff doesn't have what I'm looking for, thanks.

And Devin, that was the exact same idea that I had, for some in-sewn netting. Could you please keep me up to date on your progress with that? And I'm expecting it to be well worth what I'm going to pay. Thanks!

@P.P. - Sorry, I didn't mean it as any kind of insult for those who have it. :) It is the only commercially available fix for the bug problem, and I was just wishing they had implemented what I think would be a better one.

@Max - I'll surely post stuff here when I'm done, but this is the common mod made to the S-L 3 and Hex, and I bet others here have already done it. I know that Ryan J, for example, said he put some velcro-in netting on his. I think that fewer have done the door, but think I may try.

Devin, No offense taken. I agree that the nest is overkill and I only intend to use it with the tarp when I'm goat packing or have a hiking partner who is also a masochist.

Netting on 04/08/2009 12:04:11 MDT Print View

Devin, I have heard of others around here doing similar modifications, but I can never seem to find any pictures... If you have found any links it would be great if you could share them. Thanks.

I keep trying to think of a way to attach short netting to a tyvek floor, and hooking it to the nest loops in my Shangri la 3.

Quick Update on 04/10/2009 12:54:50 MDT Print View

Jeff did want to sell me one, but he hasn't responded to my emails in a few days... I'm hoping he's just busy, and he'll get into contact later, but for now I'm still looking for a Shangri-La 3. Thanks.
