Taylor, if you dont understand the nature of my post there is nothing I can do to help you understand it. For those of you who do understand it I think we all agree guns are for Murder be it bambi or our neighbors. Guns do more bad than good. A better topic might be paving the pct and exterminating all wild life so we dont have to be bothered with nature. I pity any human who needs a gun to feel safe. Ali

"sober up and realize that something else is going on in our society that make our people generally more prone to violence"

Ah Ha! I found the answer to this question, and it points to a clear solution. According to this paper:

Epidemiology of Firearm Mortality and Injury Estimates
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6WB0-4HG68T8-9&_user=100241&_origUdi=B75J0-4KTXGY2-8&_fmt=high&_coverDate=08%2F31%2F1996&_rdoc=1&_orig=article&_acct=C000007718&_version=1&_urlVersion=0&_userid=100241&md5=26c9b2eeae0b4a5ec77be34b823378d2

The vast majority of injuries and fatalities from firearms in America are from young males, especailly blacks. So the solution must be to prevent this subgroup from owning guns. Come to think of it, this age/gender group is also the biggest single cause of death by auto accident, so obviously we should also stop them from driving cars. This is also the biggest group of illicit drug users, so maybe introduce random drug testing of young males. Maybe the three are linked...drug use promotes violence and car accidents. maybe just lock up young males until they are no longer young, and all of societies problems will go away!

Seriously though, what is it that is making young American males in particular so much more angry?? Maybe by addressing this issue we could go a long way towards reducing violence from all causes. I blame Grand Theft Auto!!

Don't worry Ali. I understand and can laugh at your posts ;)

Lynn, in the end we are all right. If it wasnt for personal opinion this place would be pretty boring. I take great pleasure in reading most of the posts here agree or not I often fall asleep laughing. BTW think if we made all violent criminals wear pink underwear there would be allot less crime. Ali

Amen. That's why I don't understand why some people get so upset when discussing opinions in a chaff forum.

I think if we made all firearms pink it would stop violent crime dead in it's tracks ;)

"Taylor, if you dont understand the nature of my post"

Oh,I think I do. Generally, you seem to just litter the place with whatever pops into your head, without much regard to how ridiculous it may be. For example:

"Guns do more bad than good"

That is a ridiculous sweeping statement. You're ignoring the fact that society only avoids descent into anarchy thanks to a police force. America has yet to be overrun thanks to a strong military.

Don't even try to argue that the bad things done by armed HUMANS outweighs the value of guns used for defensive purposes, or that somehow those bad things are a reason to deny law-abiding citizens the ability to defend themselves.

And also, don't even try to deny that people need to defend themselves. Apparantly, you're arrogant enough to believe that because YOU don't need to arm yourself, that no one else needs to either.

And yet another stupid thing you've posted:
"I pity any human who needs a gun to feel safe"

Do you REALLY believe no one who needs a gun to feel safe is justified in that feeling? Your arrogance seems unending.

I have a great engraving tip that I've used for years. After engraving 'whatever', I run some contrasting nail polish over the engraving (pink would be ideal in this case), then wipe the surface clean before it dries. This leaves the engraved bits nicely and conspicuosly coloured. No one will ever mistake your tools/gun/calculator for their own!

Anyone know where I can get a pink machete?

This is Chaff.

As such, I don't worry when ***YOU GUYS*** take the subject as far off the original topic as ***YOU*** wish. No problem, and the intro to Chaff allows this.

However, if you don't want to debate guns, then don't. Let it die instead.

On the other hand, bearing in mind that some readers may be under age, we do check for needless profanities and direct personal attacks. They are not needed, even in a 'debate' about guns.

The most blistering attack I have ever read was written in perfect, civilised, cultured and entirely polite English. It was addressed to the Captain of a major Cruise Liner, and earned the writer a tour of the ship personally escorted by the First Mate (or was it the Chief Engineer?). So in my book, if you want to really make a point, you can do so more effectively with polite language than by flaming off.

Roger,

Was it even better than the classic exchange between Gladstone and Disraeli on the floor of Parliament? I can't remember who started it, but it has remained to this day my personal standard of excellence in ad hominem repartee. In either case, your point is well taken. It goes something like this:

Attack: "You, Sir, are a cad and shall surely die either of the pox or upon the gallows."

Riposte: "That, Sir, depends upon whether I embrace your mistress or your morals."

Ah yes, very famous. More likely the Earl of Sandwich and John Wilkes, but I am not sure.

My favorite flame - I think it was Churchill.

Lady: "Sir, if you were my husband I would poison your drink."

Churchill: "Madam, if you were my wife I would drink it."
