I've had my LX3 since Christmas and its an excellent choice for backpacking. Fast lens, good battery life, very good movie mode,incredible array of manual options plus bracketing, and superior optics, all add up to a great camera.

The only advantage my GRD has is the option of AAA lithium batteries and arguably a better menu to navigate.

BTW, the Ricoh LC1 lens cap can be easily modified to fit the Panasonic/Leica and it stays on all the time.

Benjamin, that little Pana is so sweet! I really want one. How do you like the optical viewfinder? Is it worth it?

On the DSLR subject, I agree with Dirk on the glass point, with one caveat. Between Nikon and Canon, I don't think you can go wrong with either system, and they both offer full-frame bodies. For many, I think Canon may have an advantage on this front just because a 5D can be picked up used for a pretty good price. I really see a big difference sometimes with the 5D; there is an artistic quality to some images that my 30D lacks. It is hard to describe, but it reminds me of photos from my old FM2; the images have a depth and texture to them very much like film.

It's too slow to record images...don't recommend to buy it.

Which one is the better successor to the Sigma DP 1? And why? I don't know. The two models are Sigma DP 1s and Sigma DP 1x. I believe the 1x is newer.
