Well, I know some of us wil be out on the trail this weekend :-)
This is one of my favorite meals for the trail:

Chicken & Cranberry Gravy With Mashed Potatoes:

In a quart freezer bag put-

1 cup instant mashed potatoes

1 tsp butter buds/molly McButter

fresh ground black pepper, to taste

1 tsp dried chives

In a second freezer bag put-

1 pouch chicken gravy mix (the add 1 cup water type)

1/2 cup Craisins

Also take a 7 oz foil pouch of chicken.

In camp add 1 cup boiling water to the potatoes, stir well. Add 1 cup boiling water to the gravy

mix, stir well, add chicken. Let sit in a cozy for 5 minutes. Stir again, pour over potatoes and eat!

Feeds 2 hikers..though I'd suggest if you are a huge eater, bring along a bag of seasoned green beans (freeze dried) as a side veggie...and maybe some crusty bread for the gravy!

wonderful recipe. never knew it was this easy to eat well on the trail. also, easy to modify to suit to taste, e.g. i'll use the Craisins for dessert.

i don't know what "butter buds/molly McButter" are.

They are butter flavored flakes you can pick up in the spice section at any store....think salt and butter together :-)
You can also find butter powder (no salt) thru some mail order companies.
I know Craisins sound weird..but it works :-D
