Gone! – Golite Pinnacle on 10/15/2008 17:55:02 MDT Print View

Got my trade, the Pinnacle is gone.

I have a size large Golite Pinnacle I’d like to trade for a size medium (color green). Mine is in excellent condition, used for one 7 day trip. Or will sell for $75. If interested contact Steve at yourhandymansteve (at) nc.rr.com

No I haven't taken the time to care :)
(Snide remark omitted: I am trying to achieve 75% maturity before the birth of my 2nd daughter next week)

Cheers!

Oh no - no flame war. My point is that it is highly likely that he posts gear for sale in several other places so don't feel too bad.

By the way Johnathan - congrats on the soon to be new addition (I have three, but it often seems like more than that....)

Maturity on 10/16/2008 22:46:59 MDT Print View

I'm not sure I reached 75% maturity until a few years after my twins were born. The wife would probably argue I still haven't.

Thanks! (Happy Friday) on 10/17/2008 04:13:54 MDT Print View

Thanks David...I was afraid for a moment that a soap box summit was coming. Your additional comment brought the first into perspective for me. I actually know for a fact Steven posts on other forums. I have purchased things from him before (on other forums). Here's wishing everybody a happy Friday!!!

Thanks Jonathan! on 10/17/2008 12:34:55 MDT Print View

Yes, I post on other forums, the more exposure the better. I don't just sell, I buy a lot of stuff. Buying and selling used gear is a great way to try different gear at minimal expense. "millergear" comes not from being a dealer but from the trail name "Gear God", for my penchant for amassing and playing with lot's of gear.

Cheers,

Steve

That is a nifty trail name.

My apologies for thinking you were running some kind of secret online gear business with a not so secret name.

Flame on 10/18/2008 11:32:55 MDT Print View

This was a good buy and had I been here earlier, would have bid on it for a lighter pack for one of my sons. The negative post implicating the seller in some nefarious activity without any more evidence than previous sales, borders on public character assassination and distracts from the collegiality of this web site. Furthermore, it is detrimental to the whole purpose of this forum, particularly for those of us who stop here prior to going to other forums or retail sites. Hopefully BPL will monitor flame activity and uproot it before it drives off sellers and buyers alike and endangers the overall membership pool.

I have no idea who Steve Miller is and have had no commerce with him. This is not intended to defend him or his practices here but is posted in hopes of preserving the free flow of information and availability of equipment here in this particular forum.

Additionally, it appears that membership has declined in numbers in recent months and unprovoked attacks on members will almost certainly produce further reductions in the membership rolls and indirectly affect individual success in gleaning helpful info and obtaining deals right here with equipment.

This was all a simple misunderstanding that was resolved quickly by all the good people concerned. It was a spark at best...and I think we are all taken care of here.

CHEERS!!!

Flame War? on 10/18/2008 12:31:50 MDT Print View

John,

this was hardly a flame war - every post was made fairly 'tongue in cheek.'

Seems to me that you might actually want to create one?

Let me just say that I wouldn't have a problem if Steve was in fact an individual who only sold gear on this site. We all love gear right? I just noticed his screen name and thought that it was worth pointing out.

Also: I do in fact think that "Gear God" is a nifty trail name and I am jealous that it is taken so that I can't appropriate it.

Sometimes conversational remarks online can come across as overly aggressive or incendiary, but I don't think that anyone on this thread was being aggressive or participating in "character assassination"

Unwise intervention on 10/19/2008 11:47:20 MDT Print View

Retrospectively, it is plain I butted into this thread where I didn't belong and made use of my own "flame" without justification using language which was inappropriate and now stand guilty as charged. My apologies to David. Please forgive me. I was obviously wrong.

John -- your sins are forgiven. Go in peace, and flame no more.

Peace,
