Looking for Lightweight Tent... on 09/12/2008 09:14:44 MDT Print View

Hello,

I'm looking for a lightweight tent (four pounds or less) that is tan, or a similar colour (light brown, beige, etc.). It may be one or two person, and I want it to be four season. Price isn't a big concern, so long as I'm purchasing a tent that will survive years of proper use.

I'm also a little worried about eventual destruction from UV rays, are there any tents that address this issue?

I hope someone can help me, I'm a little overwhelmed at the tent options, and colour is very important.

I am sure I have seen a brown colour stephenson warmlite tent, but I may be wrong.

Try warmlite.com They make some of the lightest high quality mountaineering tents. If you search the forum you will find lots of info on warmlite. There was a thread on it just a few days back.

IIRC you can order the tent with aluminized fabric if you must keep your tent pitched during the day.

How many people do you want it to house?

Warmlite will make you a tent in these colors or any combination of them.
Scroll down. :)

Thank you all for the replies! The Warmlite tents looked like they would be great for me, but, unfortunately, tan is no longer a colour option. The colour is very important. I've contacted the company to see if they'll have tan available again. Any other suggestions that would fit my colour needs?

As to how many people the tent needs to house, the answer is one.

Be a little more specific when you say "four season." Do you expect the tent to survive the occasional 1/2 foot snowfall and only slightly below freezing nights or do you need a tent to handle feet of snow, hurricane-force winds, etc.? For a real expedition tent I have heard great things about the Warm-Lite tents. However, if you are only expecting mild 4-season conditions, then that may? be overkill.

If you do get a Warmlite, be sure to order the windows if you plan to use it in warmer weather unless you like sauna-like conditions. With the windows though it truly works well in all four seasons.

I've been considering a Kifaru para tipi for winter base camp use. Not marketed as ultralight but without its stove it's 3.5 lb (plus four ounces for bug netting, and no floor). You can read about it at http://www.kifaru.net/paratipi3.htm
