Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Pads on 04/07/2009 20:46:11 MDT Print View

I picked up a regular length NeoAir for my son today after seeing them advertised on MEC's website. The sales staff at our local store didn't even know they had them but they dug through their stock room and found one for me. I'm still waiting for the shorter length pads to arrive. I must say, the crinkly noise is a bit annoying but I think I'll get used to it.

I noticed them on the MEC site aswell. The Toronto store doesn't have them in stock yet. I only see the regular listed on the website...did your MEC say they would be getting the short in aswell?

Steve -

I asked about the short pad but the MEC sales people didn't seem know anything about the NeoAir. They told me that since they carry the regular and short in the Prolite Series (they had the new ones), they figured they would carry the regular and short in the NeoAir as well. I'm just going to keep watching their site.

The biggest surprise for me was the price. Since I've seen the regular size listed at $149 USD, I figured we'd really get stung with the exchange rate but it was $149 CAD at MEC.

Someone should buy up all the Neos at MEC and sell them here for US$149!!! Where else are you going to get an instant 24% profit?

Well I ordered and recieved mine a week ago and love it. Tonight my wife and I were in the Portland REI and they happened to have one on the shelf, so I got it for the wife since she really liked mine. She is a side sleeper and liked the thickness of the pad.

When are you going to put the pad to the test? Weekend is just two days away, are you planning a trip for it? =)

....I'm anxious to find out if it works well enough to support side sleepers without causing pain to hips and shoulders.

Nathan - as soon as I get it. REI taunted me with "In Transit" on April 1st (a joke?) but has not followed up with "Arrived at REI Store" just yet. I'm sure it'll be any day though.

Re: Re: Noise on 04/08/2009 07:40:09 MDT Print View

OK thanks....tried blowing it up all the way and it makes a litte less noise but still too much for me. It crinkles with each movement (I now see someone else mentioned this earlier too). I'd like to hear from people who do spend a nitght out in it what their experience is with the noise the NeoAir makes.

Side Sleeping Comfort on 04/08/2009 09:15:07 MDT Print View

I'm a 100% side sleeper and the NeoAir was super comfy for me on a one-night test last week. It was also very warm on a 40 degree night.

The hope of it being sticky enough to not slide around on a silnylon floor did not pan out, however.

I had it pretty under-inflated and the noise didn't bother me at all.

NeoAir (Regular) on 04/08/2009 10:59:24 MDT Print View

I blew up my regular sized NeoAir today and firstly was surprised that the length apprears to be slightly under rated. I held it up in front of me and it was at least as tall as me at 6'1". After a test on my normal left side I found it to be very, very comfortable just slightly deflated. Afterward I rolled it up and weighed it on my very accurate scale and found that it weighed exactly 370g or 13.05oz. So that's a full ounce that I won't have to carry. So... longer and lighter than expected and very comfortable. I'm happy!

I'm a right side sleeper. I found that if blown up to just barely prevent my right hip from grounding out, the NeoAir Regular is very comfortable. I've got a medium on back order from I imagine it'll be just as comfortable.

hey dan, they probably shipped it from the main warehouse up here in washington and it's bouncing it's way your way if you shipped it to the store. It took me a couple days to get mine and i live less than an hour from the main warehouse.

But you may have a rather cold hip on cold ground.
