Lost amongst the kerfuffle over their new "affordable" FF body, Nikon may be preparing a backpacker-approved P-series compact.

If legit, this has a lot of potential (RAW, 28mm, 22mm WA converter, optical viewfinder, even gps tagging), but again with the pixel cramming on a tiny chip.

Looks interesting. If the specs are correct then likely the sensor is the same one used in the Sony W300 , check it out here:http://luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/shirt-pocket.shtml

Nikon has finally unveiled P6000 details. Other than the over-the-top pixel count my main concern is what appears to be poor battery life. (I'll also note the irony of having an electronic box with gps and a very large, crisp display but no ability to use the combination as...a gps. I expect one of the camera makers will address this soon.)

Still, it's their best backpacker-friendly effort in ages and clearly aimed at the popular Canon G. One would expect Canon to unveil its successor soon, pre-Photokina. And so it goes.
