This black bear ran across the trail in front of us. Then just kinda hung out as we took pics thinking it would run away soon. The bear actually moved closer to us. We then clapped and yelled. The bear scratched its back and just keep sniffing and looking at us. I stood on a big log and waved my poles. The bear backed up a bit. Then we slowly walked on down the trail, keeping our eyes on the bear, but it did not move towards us anymore.

Blue Ridge Mts - Black Bear

The racoon's eyes glowed from the camera flash. This creature must have been friends with the nonchalant bear we met earlier.

Shenandoah National Park (Northern District)

The bear was about a mile off the AT on the Piney Ridge Trail. We took this and some connecting trails to the Thornton River Trail and then back to the AT headed south. Streams flowing and wild flowers.
