I just got back from a local outfitter and was there to see if the Triumph was really that great.
What I found is that it really is 5.4oz. So, the first thing I wondered is, "what was cut out?"
1) Hood cord locks are made of foam. 2) Cuffs are elastic. 3) Because of the "only two fabric panels", fit is sort of awkward to me. 4) Nylon is paper thin, only 10 Denier.
The minimal weight and features naturally call to me as an ultralight backpacker, but I wonder about it's durability. I see it wearing out quickly under pack straps or if you spend any time off trail.
On a related note, I also ran across the new Westcomb Specter LT jacket. At around 9.5 oz, it may be the one for me.
