Can anyone comment on their experiences with the Nunatak Arc AT? It seems like a very interesting bag design but I'd like some real world actual experiences.

I really like this but I used it in desert conditions.
I used it with a down jacket and the possibility of throwing on spare clothing and you need to be aware of protection from wind,a problem that all quilt style bags have in common. I hesitate to give any advice about temp. ratings I slept at around 32 f. with various combinations built around the arc at, a decent ground pad is essential too.

How was the size?

If you're an average sized person, it's a nice, light, well made bag. I just sold mine unused b/c I'm a little more stocky than a lot of folks (when I'm lean I'm still 180+ @ 5'9")and the cut was just a tad smaller than I'd like. Also, if you're big in the foot (I wear a 12 in trail runners) the footbox is a little tight.

Mark, I'm a big fan of the AT. If you think it will be too tight, just mock up the size out of cheap material to see if you need Tom to add some extra girth. Here are some threads from the past about the AT...

I've spent FOREVER trying to dig up threads on the AT. I only found 3 or so. (Searching on this site is.... ummm... you know). I think that's all that exist - there aren't many users here at BPL. I've PM'd all the users multiple times too. (Thanks you guys!)

I ordered one a couple weeks ago. I ordered one quite a while back and then cancelled my order thinking it was just to minimal for me. But like Steven said, I did some serious measuring and "testing" and I found it to be exactly what I am looking for (I hope!).

For the hip width, I measured the bottom length of my MB down inner - the width goes exactly to the pocket hem, so I draped that over me to simulate what it would be like. (Good comparison too because the lofts are probably very close). I tried on my stomach, and on my side, and it seemed to work well. I tried many times to simulate the footbox (without making one) and I think I came somewhat close. It seemed OK.

I'll post a detailed review when I get mine and get it in the field.

P.S. I just e-mailed Tom and suggested he put the "Usable Length" specs back up. (They were on the old site).

Did you find the Temp rating to be accurate?

I took my 42 x 68 in summer quilt that I had made out of primaloft and 1.1 oz ripstop two years ago and cut it down to 42 x 53 inches, sewed up the foot box and put a draw string at the top.

Tonight I'm going to rework it to make the footbox smaller. My orignial idea was that I could still use it as an overquilt, however, it's too narrow for that anyway, so it would be better served as a inner quilt for my ultra 20 should I need it.

I'm also going to sew a strap on it to simulate the Arc AT. The Arc AT should be a solid 20 degree quilt given it's loft, however the Primaloft mockup would only take me to the high 40's, so it's not a perfect mock up, but I'll see how I like the sizing.

We'll see how it works out I'll post results in the MYOG section.
