That rock path was actually a handlaid stone incline from the late 1800's early 1900's. They use to use it to drag coal cars, equipment, supplies etc. to the top of Second Mountain from the railroad. A lot of it is eroded out from the stream, but most is still intact. The eroded part actually made for a neat little rock scramble...but I was dreading taking out an ankle on one of the first trips this Spring.
