Is there a way to use the large green Propane canisters with the backpacker stoves? I read somewhere that someone made an adapater. Also, is it ok to use this type of fuel since it is not a blended fuel?

Basically, it is not safe to do so.
The threads are of course different, but the stoves are not suited to straight propane. Could be a bit dangerous.

New canisters cost around 3 bucks and those coleman things are huge, heavy, and not compatible. Save the money you would spend on an adapter and just buy the right canister...unless there is some specific reason you need to use the coleman ones...
