No warm jacket or rain gear. I don't think he could afford a down jacket at the time or saw the need for one. And he said it rarely ever rained, so didn't bother carrying a poncho. No water...

Nick, I doubt some of his gear weights too :) He specifically remembers his pack being a Kelty, so I would guess it was really 3-5 lbs. Who knows about his sleeping bag.
