My Locale Western US
About Me Mostly 2 to 3 day loops, with a couple weeklong trips too, likely going 2 weeks or more with upcoming severance. Lightening up but with an eye towards toughness and hiking convenience (secure drying on the trail. quick set up, etc...), but also a bit better food (and beverage) for most overnights. Then again I might want to do a spartan "fast n'light" overnight ... and the gear closet grows.
I'll update my gear list tomorrow ...

Re: New Mexico
Snow or no snow? South ~ 4hrs towards the Gila visitor center (a trip all ashalpt I-25 south to NM 152 -> 35) is currently only lingering north slope snow.

Back in the days of moving fast....
Mid to late 1990's, I read a book about how a wind-jacket was all a fast moving dayhiker needed (which appealed to me since I was financially "Beyond Broke" to paraphrase a Jardine ti...

Are windshirts a viable option on the future?
Just thinking about the current windshirt thread and lamenting the loss of breathability from the past front runners. The new ones either breathe far less or weigh 20% more - why buy from a major ...

Poncho - tarp
I could see a beefed up poncho tarp like the Gatewood cape in certain situations, ... if it were somewhat customizable (not a fan of the arm holes which seem to be unsecurable, ditferent height) .....

Almost like Hawaii overnight temps Re: ...quilt
During a overnight in Hawaii at just below 60°F (humid, light rain), I was good with just a liner and a fleece wrapped around my neck as a gaiter. That said, if I had to do it again I'd check...
