About Me I've always loved getting "out there" and backpacking is one of my preferred ways. I spend as much time as I can backpacking and car camping with my kids during the Summer. I'm an avid target shooter and enjoy kayaking with my family, ATVing and snowmobiling, and just about anything that get's me in the outdoors.

Re: : )
Ryan, our original plan was to pitch camp at Bear Lake and dayhike to Mt Trudee from there, but there was already a solo hiker on one of the pads and the other pad just didn't look nearly level...

Re: Re: SHT - Daughter's first real backpacking trip - video
Crushing my head was funny, I had no idea she did it until I was editing the video and decided it had to go in.

SHT - Daughter's first real backpacking trip - video
Last weekend I took my 10 year old on her first "real" backpacking trip. Up to this point we've done several overnighters at some nice State Parks (and a lot of car camping), but not...

Re: FS: Exped Synmat Hyperlite MW
John, I'm curious what you think of these new pads, you're the first I've heard that has one in the flesh. I'm thinking of the Exped M as a replacement for my XLite, but am waiting...

Re: REI
Why not ask Tim if he can use something heavier than his 20D if you want it burly? Not sure what your intended use is, but I've always considered 20D substantial for UL. I'd be afraid som...

Re: Re: Zpacks "Arc Haul - Zip" in Cuben first impressions
John A, you should be dancing a tad more. I've been introducing a buddy of mine to UL over the last 2 years. We hiked SEKI last year and this year (God willing) Glacier. I've been talk...

Re: MLD Duomid top vent won't close?
Take the plastic hoop out. It's a lot easier to do before pitching (IMHO) if you suspect you'll need it closed, but can be done from inside once it's pitched.

This was my first quilt, and I couldn't be happier. I needed a new cold weather bag, so I went with the 20F 6' Wide and had the 30% over stuff. The loft on this quilt is incredible, more tha...

gossamer murmur
I would have liked to give the 2012 Murmur a 4.5 if I could have. My only criticism is that the stitching is not as well done as I would have expected. There were a few loose threads in some of the ...

I actually liked a lot about this jacket, but I ended up returning it to REI for one simple reason - it didn't keep me warm. The fit and quality is excellent, I especially like the breast pocke...
