About Me I'm originally from PA and was interested in backpacking so I decided to buy "The Backpacker's Handbook" By Chris Townsend when I was 19. His book is how I first heard of lightweight backpacking. Three years later I joined the NAVY and was stationed at Naval Hospital Bremerton, WA. I did my first day hike up Marmot Pass in 2008 and was amazed. I had never seen anything like it before. That hike made me decide I had to have backpacking gear before the next season. This forum has helped me start out right with smart lightweight gear choices.

Re: Color
It's his grey color. It's nice but if both were available when I bought mine I would have ordered the new brown color.

Traditional "boondocking" packs
Thanks Thomas. Those packs were huge. Some of the largest I've seen. I don't think I could even make it a mile with a pack like that.

RE: Kaiser Wilderness, CA
Beautiful area Ryan. I hope I can backpack in the Sierras one day. The amount of photography gear you carry really comes out in the quality of your photos. Nice shelter combo too.

Island lake with Oakley July 3 - 5
Same here. I probably saw more people in 1 day than in all the other days combined this season. It was good for Oakley tho and luckily our camp was nice and quiet both nights.
