Why does America lose its head over 'terror' but ignore its daily gun deaths?
500+ people killed daily by hospital / doctor errors. Why don't we go for the greater good, and focus on that? And gun control might get farther if it didn't focus on punishing the law-a...

Knee injury - how to get back on the trail quickly?
Had part of my meniscus removed, and something done for a chondral defect, back in January. Still trying to get back. The exercises are pretty simple, but when I did them religiously, I had less pa...

New car
Sorry Franco, but I just can't think of a Fiat as a quality car. Too many memories of the 70s.

quadcopter/drones for backpacking (the future is coming
Seriously Tom? "What happens if we get another Dubya in office?" The guy we have now has expanded the programs of Dubya that you find offensive a hundred fold. Why would that be OK?

They don't build them like they used to... (why you shouldn't buy a cheap modern sewing machine)
My 1953 Pfaff 130 has been awesome, and I think the walking foot cost $10. I paid $75 for the whole thing. I've sewed 7 layers of sunbrella canvas, but that was at the limit.

BSA discrimination policy :(
So when are some of you tough guys going to go down to the local mosque and complain about their exclusion of GLBT? I've noticed everyone is pretty brave when it comes to the Boy Scouts or Chri...

Boys in the Wild (Short Film)
Once again Nick hits the nail on the head. I can say from my experience with Scouts that most parents today instill a need of "things" in their children, but not a desire for "experi...

Getting your gear to Philmont
I've had great luck shipping gear. But I also fly Southwest, so I don't have to deal with ridiculous luggage rules.

Gerber Mini Paraframe Knife
I've carried one of these for a few years now. Sharpens well, light to carry, and cheap. In fact, I have a couple, and when I lose one in the couch, I just carry one of the others until I find it.
