My Locale Midwest
About Me I am in my late-40's and really got interested in backpacking about 10 years ago as a way to have some concentrated time with my boys, now all finishing up high school or in college. I try to get out a few times a year, including a bi-annual trip to Colorado for some of the big stuff. Otherwise I am stuck in the very boring midwest where everything exciting is a good day's drive away.

What are people thinking?
I remember coming down from Flatop Mountain, a 14'er in RMNP, and passing people in shorts and a t-shirt carrying only a water bottle in early afternoon. I was watching the clock to be sure we...

On to Machu Piccu
I just knocked off #1 on my bucket list, summiting Kilimanjaro in September. What a great ride that was. I'll need to post some pics. Next on my life list is Machu Piccu with my wife and a...

Cuben ULA CDT--How do you like it?
I recently went with a ULA pack for the first time, the Circuit, and absolutely love the suspension. The S harness fits me better than any suspension I have tried before and I have tried lots of p...

Innov-8's
I have the same issue and have been very happy with the Innov-8 Rocklite 315's. I put in an after-market footbed from REI and they have worked out great.

Very small
I have the Fly Creek Platinum 2 and it is a very small tent. I would never attempt to use it for two people. It also got a small hole on the floor after its first use. The fabric is very delicat...

Gatorade and better trail mix
I get tired of just water so I always wish I had brought more Gatorade powder to help me drink more. I also tire of GORP quickly and wish I had brought a store-bought spicy mix of some kind. But ...

tuna pitas
I like buying whole grain pita's and filling them with tuna in the foil pouches that already has salad dressing mixed in. Also good to add relish in the single serving packs. Easy to pack, li...
