CA People -- in the hole for $500 per person? Interesting Op-ed in the WSJ comparing California to Greece. And they never touched spending on non-taxpaying illegals. Since I don't live there, I'm not going to make any snarky comments a... |

Rainier and Shagra-La 3 I'll try to think of where I saw it, but I looked at a Denali climb report the other day where they used the Shangri-La 3. Or maybe it was just a video of an avalanche, and there were some in b... |

Zion Nat'l Park Traverse 2012, aka "The Trans-Zion", BPL Group Run-Round #2 For some reason the Paul Simon song "Still Crazy" popped into my mind, unbidden, when I read this. No offense intended. |

In need of new clothes... I buy whatever catches my eye on Steep and Cheap. I think Patagonia prices are ridiculous, even with my 50% off pro form. |

ULA Circuit vs Osprey Exos 46 Sold my Exos 46 to pay for a Circuit. One of the best gear decisions I've ever made. And it's made in the USA. |

Backpacking in Utah: Gear and other q's Bring a pack that will carry a lot of water well, depending on your route. I wouldn't count on rain, but I always take a UL rain jacket for a wind jacket. It will be a lot more like what you... |

Marmot Atom Mens Regular 40 Degree Nice bag. 1/2 zipper is kind of a pain, and makes it hard to use as a quilt. Seems true to rating. |

ULA Catalyst Replaced my Exos 58 with this, much more comfortable, with more weight. Got a deal on a 2008 model, and added the dual stays. A lot bigger pack than I'll use most of the time. Gained some weight o... |

ULA Circuit Switched to this for more durability, and the ability to carry more water in the desert. Works like a champ, and you couldn't ask for better customer service. |

Osprey Exos 58 I have to ding it a little for the hip belt. I think the hip belts on the large runs small, because it didn't wrap around me enough to be effective. And that may not be fair to ding it, because al... |

Golite Ultra 20 Mine kept me warm in the upper 20s, so I'm happy. I'm not completely sure it would reach 20, and keep you warm for 8 hours. But it's a great product for a great price. |
