About Me I've been a camper all my life. BK: (before kids) the wife and I would throw our bikes and a little wheeled trunk in the back of the plane and head for the boonies just about every weekend. AK: Camping was a rarity, but we took day hikes with the kids. Now the kids are on their own and we've discovered lightweight backpacking. Been doing it for three years. Base pack weight is 14lb and decreasing. Tent is now a Hennessy Hyperlight and I've replaced the Miniworks with a Sawyer.

People in down don't frown.

There are some misstatements here both good and bad about the Sawyer that I, a long time user, would like to set straight. Filters will freeze up and many will be ruined forever. So, that's ...

Coghlans makes a $2 acrylic mirror. Dimensions (W x H): 2.75" x 4.25" Weight: 0.5 oz. If that's too big, you can cut it down to any size you like because it's plastic.

I don't know of any plastic that isn't gas permeable to some extent and it doesn't take much to alert a bear-sized olfactory organ. You need a metalized film bag to prevent oxygen from...

sling chair
My Hennessy Hyperlite hammock doubles as a sling chair. It's one of the many reasons I love hammock camping. Free chair, and more comfortable than the folding backpacking chairs.
